Walsh Announces Over $2.2 Million in Grant Funding for 117th District

HARRISBURG—Eighteen grants have been awarded to support projects in the 117th Legislative District, according to Rep. Jamie Walsh (R-Luzerne). The grants were awarded Tuesday under the state Local Share Account (LSA) grant program. The funding will help facilitate projects that range from road repairs to fire and EMS facility upgrades, equipment purchases for police, and more.
“I am very excited to announce these state grants, which will help bring many community goals to fruition,” said Walsh. “I am also grateful to my colleagues, Rep. Brenda Pugh (R-120) and Sens. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27), David Argall (R-29) and Lisa Baker (R-20), who helped advocate for these grants that invest in the future of Luzerne County.”
Grants awarded in the 117th District include:
• Black Creek Township, $97,428 to purchase road maintenance equipment.
• Butler Township, $180,000 to purchase a truck that will be used for plowing and hauling.
• Conyngham Borough, $75,000 to improve facilities at Whispering Willows Park.
• Conyngham Township, $63,558 to purchase road maintenance equipment.
• Dallas Borough, $150,000, on behalf of Back Mountain Regional Fire and EMS Inc., to purchase a fire engine.
• Dallas Borough, $24,383 to purchase and install security cameras at Kenneth Young Memorial Park.
• Freeland Borough, $205,000 to make Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility improvements at the Freeland YMCA.
• Hunlock Township, $86,545 to purchase a brush truck.
• Huntington Township, $87,740 to resurface Hortop Road.
• Jackson Township, $300,000, on behalf of Back Mountain Community Partnership, to purchase shared road equipment for use in Dallas and Harveys Lake Borough, as well as Dallas, Franklin, Lehman and Kingston townships.
• Lehman Township, $63,244 to purchase a new police vehicle.
• Nescopeck Township, $17,950 to replace the township office building’s roof.
• Nescopeck Township, $27,125 to renovate the floor of the township office building.
• Shickshinny Borough, $40,000 to complete renovations at the wastewater treatment plant.
• Slocum Township, $160,000 to facilitate sitework and design for a future fire station.
• Sugarloaf Township, $160,000 to complete the Joe Larock Recreation Field rehabilitation project.
• Union Township, $100,000 to purchase a compact track loader with planer and boom mower attachments.
• White Haven Borough, $380,000 to complete construction and engineering for the Engine House project.
The funding for these projects was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). CFA is an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
