Walsh Announces $909,000 in State Grants for Area Projects

January 6, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Walsh (R-Luzerne) today announced the recent awarding of $909,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grants to projects across the 117th Legislative District that seek to improve the quality of life for area residents.

“I am excited to have these funds flow to important projects in Luzerne County,” said Walsh. “Each of these projects will improve local infrastructure, provide for better emergency services or increase public safety.”

Grants were awarded as follows:
• $222,000 to Luzerne County for the repaving of the Huntsville Road Extension in Jackson and Lehman Townships. The proposed project will repair failed pavement base course in targeted areas, mill the full width of the road and apply bituminous leveling course and new uniform bituminous surface paving. The work will also include minor drainage repairs, shoulder repairs and restriping.

• $250,000 to Penn Lake Park Borough to rehabilitate the Penn Lake Park Dam. The project involves lowering the lake, constructing a cofferdam and removing a portion of the dam to correct the seepage issue by installing a slurry wall, sand drains and toe drains. The project also includes the repair of the drawdown pipe, reconstruction of the dam and restoration to all disturbed areas. The dam requires significant repairs to remain safe and functional.

• $100,000 to Slocum Township, on behalf of the Slocum Township Volunteer Fire Company, for a new fire station. The proposed project will complete site preparation activities necessary to initiate future vertical construction of the firehall. The funds will be used for earthwork, fill, paving and curbing, drainage systems, erosion controls, and the installation of a well and septic system.

• $202,000 to Sugarloaf Township for the purchase of a 2026 Freightliner M2 106 for its public works department. The addition of this vehicle will allow for faster clearing of municipal roads during winter storms and provide a reliable vehicle to use for road work requirements during other seasons, contributing to the safety of the residents and their road department.

• $135,000 to White Haven Borough for improving the streetscape and making trail improvements. This project aims to complete a trail gap between the D&L Trail and trailhead and install new sidewalks, sidewalk lighting, crosswalks and a new trail all along Main Street. This would improve walking access to local businesses, along with making pedestrian traffic safer.

LSA funding comes from gaming revenues and is distributed through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth.
